Video: Creative Wellness at Heartlands

Health Works for Cornwall Pluss Video 19 April 2022

For many, the journey to employment consists of a series of smaller steps. For instance, they may need support or guidance with things like building confidence, mental health challenges, writing a CV or improving interview skills.

There are any number of things which can appear as barriers. Pluss Health Works for Cornwall can help break down those barriers and offer a helping hand along the way.

One of the ways we can help is with our Creative Wellness session. Working at your own pace, and with any form of crafting you enjoy, it offers a way to socialise with other people and take another step towards your goal.

📹 Watch the video below as Pluss Community Coach, Jo Abram, explains what’s on offer.

It’s fully-funded so won’t cost you a penny, and the only criteria is that you live in Cornwall, are aged 16 or over and not in paid employment.

We offer a variety of sessions and support in different locations across the county.

Alison’s thoughts on the Creative Wellness sessions

One participant on the day we were filming, Alison, was happy to appear in our video, but she wasn’t so keen on speaking on camera.

Instead she wrote us this lovely note to explain why she had decided to come along:

Alison“I was referred to the Creative Wellness group by Disability Cornwall. I have had a year off work due to illness and cancer treatment.

“I have found the last couple of years very tough – both physically and mentally and I feel as if I have lost touch with reality a bit. I just want to build my confidence and self-esteem.

“I have felt very isolated and my anxiety and depression have got worse due to dealing with my cancer treatment and the side-effects.

“I came along to the group and did some drawing today. I wanted to do something creative and meet other people.

“I feel that joining in with groups and activities is a good way to help me get back some of my confidence.”
