Michael's story: From meals to wheels

Like so many people in the hospitality industry, Michael found himself faced with a complete change of circumstance when Covid raised its ugly head.

After 35 years of working as a chef, he was now looking at a new challenge; a complete change of career.

Michael found it difficult to think of anything else he could do. He assumed his options would be limited, especially considering his age.

He turned to Pluss’ Hopeful Families for support and guidance.

“They made me realise that here WERE options,” he says. “My mentor, Jane, has been on hand throughout the whole process and her level of communication has been great!”

From his initial thoughts that a career change “at his time of life” was impossible, Michael soon discovered that, with Hopeful Families help, the future wasn’t as bleak as he’d imagined.

Hopeful Families has made a very big difference to my life,” he says.

After discussing his situation, Michael decided to train to become a minibus driver. Hopeful Families helped him with all the paperwork and supported him along the way.

“They gave me the information, advice and guidance I needed to take that next step in changing my career – and I am very thankful.”

And, as the picture at the top of the page shows, he passed his test!

“I’d just like to say thank you,” he says. “I’m forever grateful to Hopeful Families and the opportunities they’ve given me.

“Jane has been an awesome mentor and I am thankful for everything.”

Michael says his future goals are to maintain a healthy career path with his new employer and to make sure he spends time on himself, keeping his mental health in check.

We wish him the best of luck with his transition – “from meals to wheels”. 😊
