Kira's story: A step closer to employment

Pluss Positive People - Cornwall 15 June 2022
Kira

Kira is just 21-years-old. She has lived in Cornwall all her life but her anxiety had left her feeling unable to get out of the house she shares with her mum.

She found things like meeting new people, using public transport, and starting new adventures a real challenge, so she joined the Pluss Positive People project, delivered by the team at Cornwall Neighbourhoods 4 Change (CN4C).

Up until now, Kira has never had a job. It is her goal to become a counsellor and she’s currently studying to achieve this. The team at CN4C have been supporting her and Kira says, since she’s been on the Positive People project, she’s starting to see a big difference.

“I’ve had constant support from my change coach, with what I want to achieve; my goals and life plans,” she says.

Kira has been supported, by the Positive People team at CN4C, in finding ways to boost her confidence, and in obtaining some personal ID.

“I am now able to go out and talk to people,” she says. “I am able to travel on public transport and, now that I have some ID, I have been able to open a bank account so I can sign up for benefits etc.

“I feel much more confident to look and apply for jobs and hopefully I’ll find one that suits me soon.”

Kira has done really well already, but she still has some future goals to fulfil: “I plan on completing my Level 2 Counselling Course and finding a job,” she says.

Good luck, Kira!

STOP PRESS.

We have just heard that Kira has completed her level 2 counselling and has been accepted to do her level 4, she has also got a job now, her first ever job. She tells us she’s really excited and couldn’t have done it without the support of the CN4C Positive People team. 😊
