Sarah and Vera live in Chard. They have both been supported by the Pluss Engage Somerset project and, apart from seeing each other once or twice when taking part in a group walk, they’ve not really met each other properly.
We invited them to take a seat on a park bench and get to know each other a bit better, and to discuss their time working with Community Coach, Julie.
They both signed up to Engage Somerset for very different reasons, but it seems they now have a very similar outlook on the support and guidance they’ve received, and how they’ll be using it as they continue their journey.
Vera has taken what she has learnt and is now using it to help support others, whilst Sarah has been signposted to Pluss Positive People Somerset to help take her new-found confidence to the next level.
Julie sat this one out – which was probably just as well as this pair had lots to say about their time with her!
You can eavesdrop on the conversation by clicking on the video, and if you’d like to find out more about Engage Somerset (and/or Julie) please check out the links at the bottom of this page.
Engage Somerset is available to residents who are not in employment and live in one of three Somerset towns: Glastonbury, Highbridge or Chard.
The scheme is funded by the UK Government’s Community Renewal Fund (CRF) and is administered by Somerset County Council. To date the project has supported over 250 people from across the three towns.
It aims to inspire healthy change, through a range of activities such as group walks, art groups and healthy eating sessions, along with bespoke individual one-to-one coaching sessions that seek to tackle any barriers that are holding participants back from moving forward with their lives.
