Step up to the mic

Health Works for Cornwall Pluss Video 06 September 2022
Fin behind the mic at KMF Radio

What better way to boost your confidence and improve communication skills than taking to the airwaves?

Specialist Change Coach, Emily, from Pluss’ Health Works for Cornwall, is working with a local online radio station to offer participants the chance to step up to the mic.

Specialist Change Coach, Emily

Nick Thomas is the person making the needles wag at KMF Radio – he’s also a participant of Health Works for Cornwall. Nick had a brain tumour, and so has an acquired brain injury. Emily describes him as having ‘an amazing ethos when it comes to supporting people with learning difficulties and disabilities’.

So it was a very natural progression for Nick to offer to support fellow participants from Health Works for Cornwall in their quest to learn presenting skills.

KMF – or Kernow Music Foundation to give it its full name – was set up by Nick when another station folded and he realised there was still a desire, by a lot of volunteer presenters, to continue broadcasting.

Emily invited us along to take a look around and speak to a couple of budding broadcasters to find out how sitting behind the microphone can help instil confidence and offer some transferable skills.

Take a look at the video, and then check out the links at the bottom of the page to find out more about KMF and Pluss’ Health Works for Cornwall.
