Ryan’s story: a mentor, to help others

#FeelingBetter Health Works for Cornwall Pluss Video 18 May 2023

“For a considerable amount of my life I’d kind of struggled with my mental health and I spent years dealing with life by using alcohol.”

Ryan, who lives in mid Cornwall came to Health Works for Cornwall a year ago, for support with his mental well-being and for help to set-up some volunteer workshops using his skills.

Health Works for Cornwall is a programme  funded by the European Social Fund and Cornwall Council, delivered by Pluss and other partners. It helps adults not in employment, who have any kind of health barrier holding them back, to address these barriers, to enable them to move forwards with their life.

Ryan continues: Pluss Health Works for Cornwall has really bolstered my confidence and my awareness of my worth.”

Since Ryan’s been with  Health Works for Cornwall he’s had a screening for his dyslexia which has helped him to complete a level two mentoring course which he’s using to set up volunteer workshops to support other participants that are struggling with well-being.

Pluss’ Health Works for Cornwall offers help and guidance in a variety of different ways:

Support is tailored to each individual and could include:
