Caroline Faithfull is a multi-medal-winning swimmer with the GB Down Syndrome swimming team. You might also recognise her from her appearance on the Channel 4 TV show; “The Undateables”.
So when Caroline and her mum, Maura, turned up at the Pluss' Positive People roadshow in Minehead, we couldn't resist inviting them for a chat.
Caroline had come along to the roadshow (at The Minehead Eye) to highlight the need for more sports groups in Somerset, working with Pluss Positive People to help facilitate this.
And because Maura will be seeking self-employment support to help Caroline’s future as an inspirational speaker.
They took a look around the stands and chatted to our team. They also made an appearance on CHAOS TV who were broadcasting live from the event.
Pluss’ Learning Disability Coordinator, Charlotte Jones, was keen to find out more about the challenges Caroline and her family have had to overcome, and what extra help they’d like to see in Somerset to support disability sports. So the three of them headed to Minehead beach for a good old natter.

It’s important for me, as a Learning Difficulties and Disabilities Coach, that I take time to listen to people’s stories, so that I'm able to understand the areas of support that are currently lacking and which we can look at offering in the future. My chat with Caroline and her mum outlined a number of issues they’ve experienced, which I will now take away and see if there’s ways we can offer an improved support package

Maura is now having initial chats with one of the self-employment coaches at Pluss’ Positive People Somerset, to look at whether she thinks it would be beneficial to enrol on the programme. We wish her, and Caroline, the best of luck and will keep you updated on the outcome. 😀
